Had my booking appointment with the midwife on tuesday at 12+2 and she couldn't get any blood, she seemed quite nervous but i didn't mind, i just had to go back on thursday which i thought would be the end of it but no such luck. The nurse/ blood lady couldn't get any either. So had to make another appointment with the practice sister who thankfully managed to get some blood, third time lucky for them!
This week our babies length is 7-9cm and weighs 35g. There is a milky membrane that surrounds our tiny cakies. My placenta provides most of its nutrients and oxygen that out baby needs. Tissue that will form our babies bones is being laid down, especially around the head and limbs. Our babies eyelids meet and fuse together and they will not open again for nearly 4 months.
14 weeks (26th April):
Went public on facebook this week which felt fab! It was so nice. I have also now told my boss. I was absolutely sh*tting a brick before! I was soooo nervous about it but i have to say that it feels like a massive relief now she knows! She seemed like she was actually really pleased for me. She was really nice about it, not that i thought she would be horrible anyway but shes only been my boss for about 7 weeks so i don't know her too well. I've been at the company for a over a year but changed jobs due to my old job being made redundant.
Overall i've been feeling alright, have had achey legs/feet sometimes but hey, its all good.
Our little cakies is 9-10cm, about the size of an average fist and weighs about 50g. Our little cakies face is becoming more developed. About now, he or she can grasp, squint, frown, grimace and may even be able to suck its thumb. Researchers believe these and other movements probably correspond to the development of impulses in the brain. How cool is that. Our little cakies is starting to produce urine which he/she is helping to create more amniotic fluid, also he/she is starting to inhale and exhale amniotic fluid so practicing breathing for when he/she is born, kinda gross eh?15 weeks (3rd May):
Loving the bank holiday weekend! Plus i've felt some flutterings too so that might be our little cakies moving. My doppler arrived too. We tried it out before dinner and it was fantastic! We heard out babys heartbeat after a little searching. He/she is still down quite low, on my right hand side where i have felt the movement.
This week our little cakies is still small enough to fit into the palm of my hand. He/she measures nearly 4 inches / 11 centimetres long crown to rump and weighs about 2.5oz/70g. He/ she can suck his/her thumb and supposedly handedness preference is already decided by now. How mad is that?
Week 16 (10th May)
Had my 16 week midwife appointment, I also got all my blood results back, all perfectly normal. I'm O Positive which is good and my iron count was fantastic so i'm not anaemic. I had my blood taken so they could do the triple test as they couldn't take my nuchal measurement at my scan as the baby was very low and kept moving. They managed to get my blood first time, i showed them the vein they would have to use so it was all good. Also i got to listen to my baby's heartbeat again, so cute and he/she had moved up a bit which is great!
At this point, our little cakies is about 4.5-5inches long and weighs about 2.8oz. In the next 3 weeks or so he/she will undergo a big growth spurt and double in weight.Off to the Baby Show in Birmingham on friday, i'm very excited.
